Looking for tips for saving money in November? As the leaves begin to change color and the weather gets cooler, our thoughts turn to pumpkin spice lattes, cozy fires, and spending time with family. But along with all the fun that fall brings, it also brings higher expenses. Here are 10 tips to help you save money this November.
1. Get a jump on your holiday shopping
One of the easiest ways to save money during the holidays is to start your shopping early. Not only will you avoid the last-minute rush (and the higher prices that come with it), but you’ll also be able to take advantage of seasonal sales and discounts.
2. Sign up for a cash-back credit card
If you do most of your shopping online, a cash-back credit card can be a great way to save money. With most cards, you’ll earn a percentage back on every purchase you make, which can add up quickly during the holiday season. Just be sure to pay off your balance in full each month to avoid interest charges.
OR one of my favorite things to do in November is to save money! Purchase a Costco Membership Activation Certificate to join as a new member and receive a Costco Shop Card.
Now these are both ways for saving money in November.
3. Cut back on eating out
With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s easy to let your grocery budget slide as you eat out more often. But those restaurant meals can really add up! Try cooking at home more often this fall and you’ll be surprised how much money you can save.
4. Review your monthly expenses
Take a close look at your recurring monthly expenses like your cell phone bill, gym membership, or streaming service subscriptions. If there are any that you no longer use or need, cancel them and put that money toward your holiday shopping instead. Saving money in November and December is all about reviewing your monthly expenses.
5. Shop around for insurance rates
Fall is a great time to review your insurance rates and see if there are any savings to be had. Call around or get quotes online from different providers and see if you can get a lower rate on your car insurance, homeowners insurance, or even life insurance policy.
6. Bring your lunch to work
Packing your lunch is a great way to save money all year long, but it can be especially helpful during the fall when there are so many tempting holiday treats around every corner. By bringing your lunch from home, you’ll not only save money but also avoid those extra calories!
7. Make a budget for gifts
One of the best ways to stay within your means during the holidays is to set a budget for gifts before you start shopping. Decide how much you’re willing and able to spend on each person on your list and then stick to that number when you’re out shopping, no matter how tempting those sale items may be!
8. Find free activities in your area
Just because the weather is getting colder doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors all season long! There are plenty of free activities happening in cities and towns across the country all autumn long, from apple picking and hayrides to Halloween festivals and pumpkin patches, so get out there and enjoy them!
9. Give thoughtful, homemade gifts
One of the best ways to save money during the holidays is to give thoughtful gifts that don’t cost a lot of money, like homemade baked goods, candles, or even just photos framed nicely. Taking the time to make something yourself shows how much you care without breaking the bank.
10. Have a plan for holiday spending
The holidays can be a fun but stressful time of year, both emotionally and financially! To help ease some of that stress, sit down before the holidays begin and make a plan for how much you’re going or willing to spend on each person. This is one of my favorite tips for saving money in November.
